Each cap has 2 LED lights and a brand new solar cell, which absorbs the sun's energy during the day and stores it in the Ni-Cad Rechargeable Batteries to be converted into light at night. The length of time that the lights stay on at night is in direct proportion to the amount of sun exposure during the day. Simply put, the better the sun exposure during the day, the longer the lights stay on at night. The batteries should last about 1-4 years and are easily replaced. The Solar Post Caps have a full 2 year manufacturer's warranty. These easy-to-install caps are exterior-mounted to fit a true 5" x 5" post and stands 5.5" tall.
